ELM FIELDS FARM
We’re calling for artists from all disciplines to put forward their ideas for an art installation at our Elm Fields Farm scheme in Coventry.
The piece would be located on one of the green spaces on the site and should take the ecological aspects of the site into consideration.
Your proposed art could be anything from an interactive or integrated architectural piece of artwork to a sculpture or mural – you can see examples of pieces we’ve previously commissioned on page 3 and page 5.
Entries must keep in mind that the piece of art will remain in situ for the foreseeable and should require minimal maintenance investment.
Elm Fields Farm will comprise of 148 affordable homes. The site is located less than 5 miles from the centre of Coventry and sits on farmland located off Wigston Road.
The site has a Secondary School to the West, The M6 motorway to the North, commercial premises to the East and detached housing (c. 1970s) to the South.
The development will comprise of four one-bedroom flats, 67 two-bedroom, 68 three-bedroom and 11 four-bedroom houses, with a mix of social rent, rent to buy and shared ownership options available.
All the homes will benefit from air source heat pumps to reduce energy bills – with 50 per cent also set to have solar panels installed – as well as electric vehicle charging points to further reduce emissions.
The homes will be built using modern methods of construction (MMC), with timber panels made in a factory and then transported onto site where they are assembled to form the walls of their homes, reducing construction waste. This reduces the amount of carbon embodied in building materials by 25 per cent when compared to traditional brick and block construction.
Significant work will be undertaken to enhance the biodiversity on the site with wildflower meadows and ponds being incorporated into the development. Green, public open space and play equipment for new and existing residents to enjoy, as well as an apple orchard will also be incorporated into the site.
